Karen, Thank you for your reply. The DAW plan is quite new; it was actually presented on the 31st of January of this year. You can find an information brochure here: http://www.uvw.nl/producten-agrarische-emissies.html. Although I think it is only available in Dutch. I will post an English version if I can find one. Much of the DAW is based on bottom-up quick scans that were made of the 16 agricultural areas in the Netherlands. These areas have been defined based on soil type, geographic location, and land use. For the quick-scans interviews were conducted with water board officials, and officials working at the regional LTO offices. The results describe: - Characteristics of the area: current land-use, developments, soil type, water system description - Bottlenecks: current and future bottlenecks, and the scale at which they occur, defined per type (water safety, quality and quantity) - Points of attention: from bottlenecks to national or regional action; opportunities for agriculture. I believe the next phase consists of raising awareness and public support, and defining region-specific promising ideas and projects, as well as deepening the knowledge base. As far as the success of specific alternatives goes; I will get back to you on that. Right now I am looking at the implementation of water conservation measures in Florida; I will focus on the Netherlands later in my research process. I know there are several pilot projects where they look at drip irrigation, and making the water permit holder responsible for checking if water extraction is feasible. More on that later!
